Rosendals Trädgård – The Rosendal Garden Foundation is situated on Djurgården, in central Stockholm. Here you can see and learn more about organic farming of flowers, vegetables and fruit trees; buy plants and pots, enjoy homemade bread and cakes from the woodfired bakery; participate in courses, arrange parties; eat and drink in the legendary garden cafe. The garden also holds a pedagogic learning programme for children “Play Cultivate Grow”.

There has been gardens by the Rosendal Castle since the 18th century. In 1861 the Swedish Gardening Society in collaboration with queen Josephine started up a gardening-academy. During the fifty years it was running, up until 1911, 700 gardeners were trained here. Once the gardening society left the area Rosendal went into a period of less activity. In 1960 the Royal Administration of Djurgården restored the garden. Since 1982 Rosendals Trädgård has been operated and administrated by a trust fund “Stiftelsen Rosendals Trädgård”. The land and buildings are leased from the Royal Administration of Djurgården. The aim of the foundation is to raise public interest in garden culture through organic farming and pedagogical initiatives.

Today Rosendals Trädgård is run as a commercial garden with vegetable and flower fields, greenhouses, an orchard, a rose garden, winegrowing, bakery, shops and a café. For the children a playground is provided. All cultivation is done according to biodynamical principles. The trust fund has no private economic stakeholders and is completely self supporting. It receives no economic contribution from the municipality.

The Rosendal Café offers lunches, sandwiches and baked goods, made from organic produce as far as possible often with produce from the garden surrounding the greenhouses. The Plantshop holds a carefully chosen selection of plants, seeds and gardening tools.  In the farmshop you will find bread and cakes made from organic produce in the wood fired bakery, fruit and vegetables from the garden as well as crafts, books and a selection of organic food.

Every season a limited number of garden trainees joins the gardeners.  The garden also holds an extensive course program as well as special theme tours, events and exhibitions to the public. Groups can book guided tours of the garden.
